Originally devised by C.A. Cutter, these tables provide a commonly used method for arranging books by author within a given class. Thousands of libraries use one of the three Cutter Author Tables. The tables, as revised in 1969, appear in a new typeface with the letters and figures to be used printed in boldface type. Rearrangement into a single, consecutive alphabet makes each table easier to use. These editions may be employed in conjunction with earlier editions because individual letter and figure combinations have not been changed. However, the Cutter-Sanborn Table cannot be used in conjunction with any Cutter-Two-or-Three-Figure Tables as it is based on an entirely different selection of authors' names.
